Unique entrepreneurial opportunity within the fresh produce sector.
Our client is an extremely entrepreneurial business operating within the fresh produce sector. Their customer base is focused around a balanced portfolio of leading grocery retailers and related suppliers to the sector. The business has grown rapidly over the past 3 years and is now seeking a Managing Director to continue taking the business forward and implement its strategic objectives. The role will report directly to the owners of the company.
The organisation has a focused strategy with clear aims for future development in relation to its customers and product categories, it occupies a unique competitive position.The MD’s remit will be to build on and strengthen the service offering, maintain and enhance growth and profitability and, fundamentally, deliver shareholder value. The company is structured around Business Units operating in distinct product categories each headed up by a Business Unit Director (BUD). Category procurement, sales and operations report into the BUD. The BUDs will report directly to the MD together with other central functions.
The role will have considerable latitude and autonomy in relation to building the business and managing the senior team. It is important that the successful candidate has demonstrable and well-rounded experience to represent the company to external parties, particularly with customers’ at the most senior level. It is a highly visible role and will require leadership qualities of the highest order.
It is essential that you have previous fresh produce experience and a personal standing within the industry. You must be able to command respect from a highly motivated team who themselves command considerable respect within the industry. Past experience of dealing with investors, finance providers and the principles of project financing will also be beneficial. This is not a traditional ‘corporate’ role where functional support is provided from other parts of a parent business. You must have an appreciation of how a business is constructed and developed that is only likely to have been gained from doing it.
